An early twentieth century apartment, a short walk from the center of Florence, has became a bed and breakfast that houses five rooms with bathroom, breakfast room and reception. The restyling operation was conducted with the aim of achieving a quality according to the economic requirements placed by the customer. The designer’s strategy, thus, has been to focus attention on some elements of value and then fade towards equally original solutions in order to respect those clients’ constraints. The precious travertine for the bathrooms (also used in single blocks), the wallpaper designed by Fornasetti and built with the traditional techniques from Cole and Son and the Inga Sempé “Vapeur” lamps coexist with wardrobes and desks made by plasterboard. The choice of colours, then, creates an enveloping atmosphere and helps to visually integrate plasterboard furniture in the room space. The same colour attention is given to the combination of fabrics and upholstery, according to a care in every detail.
The constraint of the client, in the end, resulted in the occasion to experiment alternative design solutions to conventional ones, creating a space with character and personality.
